Summary of the second Advisory Council meeting in preparation to the Ministerial Conferences Astana-2010 and Astana-2011.

1.   The second meeting of the Advisory Council (AC) for the preparation and holding of the Ministerial Conferences Astana-2010 and Astana-2011, representatives of civil society, business sector, government agencies, diplomatic missions, international and regional organizations, the scientific community and the media have expressed the importance of participation in Conference of Ministers of the Astana-2010 and the need to support the preparatory process.

2.   The representative of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Kazakhstan informed the participants about the allocation of responsibility for the preparation and holding of the Sixth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Development, according to the following pattern:

— National Secretariat of the Conference Astana-2010 — MEP RK, CAREC

— Development of national documents of the Conference Astana-2010 — UNDP Kazakhstan

— Organizer of parallel events and exhibitions Conference Astana-2010 — CAREC

— Lead Business Forum and co-organizer of the exhibition — KBASD

3.   Board members agreed with the concept of parallel events and the official website of the Sixth Ministerial Conference on Environment and Development, Astana-2010.

4.      The representative of ESCAP reported on the preparations for the Conference of Ministers of the Asia Pacific region and proposed partners for participants both during the preparatory process and at the Conference itself Astana-2010, including parallel events.

5.      Representative of national company “Kazatomprom” noted the importance of participation of business community in the process" Environment and development of the Asia-Pacific region and assured the support of the company Kazatomprom" on Conference Astana-2010.

6.      Representative of the ENRC-Management KZ expressed that company's intention to support the preparation and holding of the Conference of the Astana-2010, also noted the involvement of experts ENRC-Management KZ in the process of preparing the documents of Astana Initiative.

7.      Expert Project of the European Commission noted the need to take into account the merger of the Asia-Pacific with the European process in a single Eurasian. Were also voiced the possibility of involvement of the business community in the process of preparation and holding of the Conference of Ministers of the Astana-2010.

8.      The representative of the Eurasian Economic Community noted the importance of integrating economic development and environmental security as a priority at the State level — members of the community. He expressed the importance of the upcoming conference as a platform to discuss issues of environmentally sound economic development.

9.      The representative of ESCAP noted the needs for participation of business community, as key contributors to building an environmentally sound economy.

10.  Representative of the EcoForum of Kazakhstan noted the importance of involving the public in the process of preparation and holding of conferences Astana-2010, Astana-2011. In addition, the articulated needs of the public were of Central Asian countries to strengthen capacity and promote civil society by government bodies.

11.  The participants endorsed the idea of training on Sustainable Development for the various stakeholder groups (NGOs, businesses, government agencies, etc.) and presenting the results during a conference at a special site -event during the Conference of Ministers, Astana -2010.

12.  The representative of the North Caspian Operating Company expressed that company's intention to support the preparation and holding of the Conference of the Astana-2010, as well as the importance of sustainable economic development.

13.  The representative of the company Saint-Gobain has expressed interest in the process and noted the need to publicize the ongoing process, not only to stakeholders, but also for the general public. Also stressed the need for participation in the Consultative Council of the wider community, including the energy sector.

14.  The representative of the Ministry of Environment of the Republic of Kazakhstan has expressed gratitude to all partners and stakeholders in the preparatory process and assured the support of the government
